Bball Destiny

Awards and titles in Bball Destiny

Bball Destiny hands out 30 awards, from MVP and Finals MVP to Olympic medals. At the end of each season the game reads your box score against each award's bar. A team selection is yours once your line clears it, and a trophy with one winner is a race your line gets you into. The honors a season line cannot settle keep a chance, and a title comes from a simulated playoff run.

Every award the box score decides has a window, and below its floor you never win it. The team selections (All-Star, All-League, All-Defensive, All-Rookie) name many players, so from the top of the window you always make the team, and in between the rest of the league decides that season. The trophies with one winner (MVP, Defensive Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Sixth Man, Most Improved and the five league leader titles) are races: the floor gets you in, your odds grow with your line up to the award's best at the top of the window, and each time you already won it in that league takes a quarter off them. A season also needs enough games: 75% of the schedule for MVP, 70% for the All-League Team and the league leader titles, 45% for the All-Star Game.

Most bars use impact, a per-game production score: points + 0.65 × rebounds + 0.8 × assists + 1.8 × steals and blocks. A season of 25 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists with 2 steals and blocks is an impact of about 39.

The windows are written in NBA numbers, and every other league scales them to what its own best players post: that is the first column below. The second column is the league's prestige. It multiplies the odds of every race outside the NBA, the chance of a team selection outside the NBA and the EuroLeague, and the chance of the honors a season line cannot settle (the Hustle Award, sportsmanship, Teammate of the Year, Social Justice Champion, the captaincy). For those last ones the chance also shrinks by 12% a year from age 33 (5% for an NBA player with talent 86+ and an MVP), and a captain's re-election ignores both.

An event can settle an award before the season ends. An MVP the event hands you is on the record whatever the window says, and an award it gives to someone else stays off it.

MVP is a race. An impact of 40 in NBA numbers gets you into it with a 10% chance, and the chance grows with your line to 40% from 50, because another player can post a season too. Each MVP you already won takes a quarter off your odds at the next one, the season needs 75% of the games, and the voters read the standings, so your team must be winning. 30 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists with 3 steals and blocks is an impact of about 46. MVP exists in every league, with the window scaled to that league and the odds to its prestige.

The All-Star selection only exists in the NBA. It comes with any All-League Team or 25 points a night, and otherwise takes an impact from 28 to 34, always with 45% of the games played. Only an All-Star can be All-Star Game MVP.

Every league except high school ends with playoffs. Your team's quality blends your production in points, rebounds and assists (42%), the strength of your club (30%), a supporting cast drawn at random (15%) and the share of games you played (10%). Below 0.40 on that 0 to 1 scale (0.42 in college), your team misses the playoffs.

The NBA and college play four rounds to the title, every other league three. Each round is one check against an opponent drawn between 0.40 and 0.85: your chance is your quality divided by the sum of both, kept between 12% and 90% (28% and 74% in college, where one bad night ends a season).

In college, the conference tournament comes first: the better your team, the likelier the title, up to 60%. Winning it guarantees a place in the national tournament even when your team would have missed it.

A champion with an impact of 30 or more in NBA numbers is named Finals MVP 65% of the time, in any league with playoffs.

An event set in the postseason settles part of the run: after a game seven won, your team got past that series; after a final lost, it finished runner-up. The simulated playoffs then stay inside what the event told, and a postseason story only comes to a team good enough to be there.

A World Cup summer and an Olympic summer each come around once every four seasons. Your federation calls you from age 18 if you play in the NBA or the EuroLeague with health of 35 or more; before 22, only a top-10 draft pick gets the call. A US player also needs an NBA club and, at some point in the career, an All-Star Selection, an All-League Team, an MVP, an All-Star Game MVP or a Finals MVP. The call also needs a selection score (talent, plus 0.3 × reputation, plus 10 in the NBA or 4 in the EuroLeague) that clears your country's twelfth-man bar; that score and your country's depth set your role, from twelfth man to team leader.

Saying yes carries a 7% chance of an injury that ends the summer without a medal. Otherwise Team USA wins Olympic gold 90% of the time and World Cup gold 70%. The other five nations start between 4% and 7% for Olympic gold and between 7% and 11% for World Cup gold, and a big role with talent above 78 raises those odds.

Nationalities and where each one starts

At the end of the season, each headline award adds 3 popularity (12 at most) and 4 reputation (16 at most), and winning at least one adds a point of leadership. Medals are counted apart: the tournament itself moves your reputation and popularity the day it ends.

These awards are honors without that bonus: All-Rookie Team, All-Defensive Team, Team Captain, Conference Champion, Hustle Award, Sportsmanship Award, Teammate of the Year, and Social Justice Champion.

Every award also counts on the legacy ladder. An NBA MVP weighs 8 and a Finals MVP 5. A medal is scaled by passport: an Olympic gold weighs about 10 for most countries, more than an MVP, and 4.4 for a US player. An award won outside the NBA counts for less, from 65% in the EuroLeague down to 3% in high school.

How do I win MVP in Bball Destiny?

Post an MVP line: an impact of 40 or more in NBA numbers (points, plus 0.65 per rebound, 0.8 per assist and 1.8 per steal or block), over 75% of the games, for a winning team. That puts you in the race, with 10% at the floor and up to 40% from 50, and each MVP you already won takes a quarter off it.

Can I be an All-Star outside the NBA?

No. The All-Star selection and the All-Star Game MVP only exist in the NBA. Most other awards, MVP included, can be won in any league, with bars scaled to that league.

How do I win a championship?

Make the playoffs, then win every round: four in the NBA and in college, three elsewhere. Your production weighs 42% of your team's quality and your club's strength 30%, so a star on a strong club goes furthest. High school has no playoffs.

Can I win Rookie of the Year if I am drafted at 22?

Yes. Your first season in a league counts as a rookie season up to age 21, or up to one year past the age you were drafted. With 60% of the games and an impact of 22 or more in NBA numbers you are in the race, up to 60% from 30.

Do awards won in college or in Europe count?

Yes. They count toward build unlocks and on the legacy ladder, at a reduced weight there: 65% in the EuroLeague, 20% in the European minor league, 8% in college.
